Privacy Policy

Last updated

This policy explains what information Snipgif collects when you use this website, why, and the choices you have. Snipgif is the operator of this website and is responsible for the personal data described here.

Your videos and GIFs never leave your device

Snipgif converts videos and compresses GIFs inside your browser. The files you choose are read and processed on your device only. They are never uploaded to Snipgif or anyone else, Snipgif never sees or stores them, and they are cleared from memory when you close or reload the page.

Information processed when you visit

Hosting

The site is hosted on Vercel. Like any web server, Vercel receives technical details with every request, such as your IP address, browser type, and the page requested. These are used to deliver the site, keep it secure, and protect it from abuse.

The converter engine

When you choose a video to convert or a GIF to compress, your browser downloads the converter engine (about 30 MB) from the jsDelivr content delivery network. jsDelivr receives your IP address and browser details as part of that download. Your files are not sent.

Information stored on your device

When you use the theme switch, Snipgif saves your choice in your browser’s local storage under the key theme. Snipgif also saves copies of its own pages and files, and once used the converter engine, in your browser’s cache storage so the site loads faster and works offline. None of this is sent anywhere, and clearing site data removes it. See the Cookie Policy for details.

Analytics from Google

Snipgif is free and open source, and it shows no ads. It uses Google Analytics 4 to understand how the site is used, such as pages viewed, conversions completed, and settings chosen. Google Analytics never receives your videos, your GIFs, their file names, or any caption text.

To learn more, read how Google uses information from sites that use its services. You can opt out of Google Analytics with the Google Analytics opt-out add-on.

How long data is kept

Snipgif has no server or database of its own, so it keeps no records of your visits. Vercel, jsDelivr, and Google keep the data they receive under their own privacy policies, linked above.

For visitors in the European Union and the United Kingdom, Snipgif relies on:

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data, to object to or restrict its processing, and to data portability. Snipgif does not hold an account or profile about you, so most data described here is held by the services named above, and you can also contact them directly.

Snipgif processes personal data in line with Moroccan Law No. 09-08 on the protection of individuals with regard to the processing of personal data, and with the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) for visitors from those regions. You can file a complaint with Morocco’s CNDP (Commission Nationale de contrôle de la protection des Données à caractère Personnel) or with the data protection authority where you live.

To make a request about data Snipgif controls, open an issue in the Snipgif GitHub repository. Issues are public, so describe the request without including personal details. For data held by Vercel, jsDelivr, or Google, you can also contact those services directly.

Children

Snipgif is not directed at children under 16 and does not knowingly collect personal data from them.
