Screen recordings, ready to share
WebM is the video format of the web. Browser-based screen recorders, many capture tools, and some video sites save to WebM. That makes it the format you often have when you want to show a bug, a product feature, or a quick how-to.
A GIF of that recording plays on its own and loops in places video can’t: pull requests, issue trackers, help docs, email, and chat threads.
Built for quick demos
- Trim to the action. Drag the start and end points to cut the setup and the pause at the end. A GIF can run up to 30 seconds.
- Crop to what matters. Use 1:1, 16:9, or 9:16 to frame one part of the screen.
- Speed it up. A faster playback speed squeezes a slow demo into a few seconds.
- Add a label. A short caption can explain what the viewer is looking at.
Private by default
Screen recordings often show things you’d rather not upload: dashboards, emails, or code. Snipgif converts the WebM on your device with ffmpeg.wasm, so the recording never leaves your computer.
Getting a sharp, small GIF
Screen content has crisp text and flat colors, so it compresses well as a GIF. Keep the width close to the size the GIF will be shown at, and use a lower frame rate for slow-moving demos. If the file is still too big for where you want to post it, the GIF Compressor can reduce it further.
